The Institute of Humanities

The Institute of Humanities was created in May 2009 by the decision of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The Institute educates students in two fields:

  1. Philology
  2. Pedagogy

The Specialities in the field of Philology:

  • English Philology
  • German Philology

Bachelor Studies

Full-time studies (6 semesters)
Extra-mural (6 semesters)

The graduates will obtain a Bachelor's degree in English. The graduate will possess the basic skills and knowledge of the language, literature and culture of the target language's nation indispensable  in their future jobs. The graduates will have the functional knowledge of English as well as translation skills. The process of teaching includes the issues connected with solving professional problems, collecting and transferring information and working in a team. Solid philological education and practical language skills can be used by the graduate in the professional environment as a translator, according to the requirements of the labour market (general translations, literary translations, and also specialised ones e.g. social-political, legal-economic).

The school is also preparing new teaching specialities: English Philology with additional German and German Philology with additional English.

  • Pedagogy of Early School Education,
  • Care and Education Pedagogy,
  • Primary Education with English,
  • Nursery Education with English,
  • Rehabilitation Pedagogy,
  • Social Aid,
  • Health Pedagogy with Workplace and Employee Safety,
  • Pedagogy of Early School Education with Art.

The aim of education in this field is to prepare professional staff to work in departments of social aid, police, health service, education and justice as well as employment agencies. The graduate will gain the knowledge of pedagogy which enables them to understand social processes and human behaviour. They will gain the skills within the scope of social diagnostics, interpersonal training, team organization and management and pedagogical work within social aid, personal counselling, educating young people and adults.

The Course of Study

The curricula include basic, major, specialized and general education, in accordance with the binding teaching standards specified by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
